Legend of the Phoenix ~ Chapter One

A silver dragon stood, outlined by the fading dusky light.

The mountain...it has been calmed, the eruption has not happened this month, she thought.

In the sky above, she could see a black dragon switching posts with a green one, and nodded her approval to herself. In her moment of distraction, a giant fiery bird emerged from the volcano and flung itself at the dragon, it's sharp claws resembling hers outstretched as it's powerful feathered wings majestically rode the air current. She turned her head and saw it, eyes wide with surprise. The dragon darted to the side, avoiding instant death, though the bird's claws ripped her wing. She winced, but was immediately confused.

Why do I feel no pain?, she asked herself.

Blood poured from her wound, and although she couldn't feel the wound itself, her head became as light as mist. Before her fading vision, the bird screeched and in a flurry of feathers was set alight and burnt to ash. With a final gasp the silver dragon collapsed, the hiss of the cooling ash the only sound to be heard.

A fire bird circled the mountain of smoke.
It watched.
It listened.
A cave.
Marks on the wall.
An egg unlike it's family.
Crack. Crack.
Fire Bird's flight falters.
Snap. A wing breaks to air.
Falling.
Falling.
Lifeless bird falls.
Ground.
Life takes it's flight.
Ready to begin anew.

[Okay, your probably wondering about a lot... a.)I will leave the first part of the story to your imagination. b.)The middle is just old text in dragon writing written long ago located in a cave on Smoke Mountain, and the reason the "-" are there is because that letter is illegible/faded. c.)The end will be explained in the next chapter]
